Beijing Tower Damaged by Plane Collision; Chinese Authorities Censor Information
A tower in Beijing sustained damage after being struck by a plane, with satellite imagery from 11 May showing two distinct holes on its exterior. Despite the visible impact, Chinese authorities have offered no official explanation regarding the incident, choosing instead to remove physical traces and restrict public discourse.
The tower, identified as a prominent structure in the Changping district, exhibits impact points consistent with an aerial collision. While details remain scarce, online discussions and images of the damaged structure, which circulated briefly on Chinese social media platforms, have since been systematically scrubbed. This censorship extends to flight tracking data and related search terms.
Local government sources have remained silent on the event, and state media has conspicuously avoided any mention. The incident follows a pattern of information control often observed in China regarding sensitive events, preventing independent verification or public understanding of the circumstances surrounding the collision.
