Bernard Matthews to Cease Production at Derby Plant, 200 Jobs Affected
Bernard Matthews Foods has announced the closure of its Derby processing plant on Shaftesbury Street, with operations ceasing by the end of 2026. This move will result in the elimination of roughly 200 jobs at the site.
Rationalisation and Investment
The company stated that the decision follows a strategic review, concluding that the Derby facility requires substantial capital investment to remain viable. Rather than commit to these upgrades, Bernard Matthews will consolidate production at its existing Norfolk and Suffolk sites.
Bernard Matthews confirmed its intention to support affected employees through consultation processes and explore redeployment opportunities within the business where feasible. The closure marks a further rationalisation for the company, which has been under the ownership of the Boparan Private Office since 2018.
