
Blackpool Grandfather Gordon Nicholass Dies After Confronting Home Burglars
An 85-year-old Blackpool man, Gordon Nicholass, has died several months after he was assaulted during a burglary at his home. Lancashire Police are now treating the incident as a murder investigation, following the grandfather's death on Monday.
Mr Nicholass was targeted by intruders at his bungalow in Penrose Avenue on 2 October 2023. He confronted the burglars, who then pushed him to the floor before stealing cash and a bank card. Two men were subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the burglary.
Daniel Maytum, 38, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to burglary and grievous bodily harm with intent. He received a prison sentence of 10 years and eight months on 15 May. Nathan Booth, 27, of St Peter's Road, Fleetwood, was sentenced to two years and eight months after admitting to burglary.
Police stated that a post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the exact cause of Mr Nicholass's death. His family has been informed, and specialist officers are providing support. The investigation into the circumstances of his death is ongoing.
