Bridgend Woman Dies After Stabbing; Police Investigate Ambulance Response Time Claims
A 47-year-old woman, Eleanor Barnfield, died in hospital after police were called to a car crash in Bridgend on Monday. The incident, which occurred on the A48 near Brocastle, saw Ms Barnfield's silver car collide with a bus.
Reports suggest Ms Barnfield had suffered a stabbing prior to the collision and was attempting to drive to hospital after experiencing what was described as a significant delay in ambulance attendance. South Wales Police stated that Ms Barnfield had sustained "serious injuries consistent with a stabbing" before the crash.
Emergency services, including the Welsh Ambulance Service, were on the scene. Despite initial reports suggesting ambulance delays, a spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed that a rapid response vehicle arrived within 15 minutes of the emergency call, followed by an ambulance 10 minutes later. They further stated that the initial call concerned a road traffic collision, not a stabbing.
Police have arrested a 43-year-old man on suspicion of murder in connection with Ms Barnfield's death. He remains in police custody. Authorities continue to appeal for witnesses who may have seen Ms Barnfield's car, a silver-coloured Ford Fiesta, on the A48 between Brocastle and Stormy Down around 14:00 BST on Monday, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage.
