Two individuals have died following an explosion at a residential property on Sterncourt Road, Frenchay, Bristol. Avon and Somerset Police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 06:30 BST, subsequently declaring a major incident.
Authorities implemented a cordon around the affected area, leading to the evacuation of nearby residents to a designated rest centre. Police clarified that, despite recent adjustments to the UK threat level, the incident is not being investigated as a potential act of terrorism.
Officers urged the public to refrain from speculation regarding the circumstances and to avoid the area while emergency services continue their operations. Preliminary assessments suggest no substantial damage to surrounding properties. Further inquiries are also being conducted at an address in Speedwell, which has been linked to the explosion.
