
British Man Dies in Canary Islands Tourist Bus Crash
A British man, aged 77, has tragically died following a tourist bus crash on the Canary Island of La Gomera. The incident, which occurred yesterday, also left 27 other individuals injured when the bus plunged into a ravine.
Incident Details
The bus, carrying 27 British tourists and a driver, was travelling on the GM-2 road towards San Sebastián de La Gomera dock. The group intended to take a ferry to Tenerife. Emergency services 112 Canarias reported receiving a call at 13:16 local time, stating that the bus had left the road and fallen approximately 10 metres down a slope, reportedly near a hairpin bend on the mountainous route.
Casualties and Response
All 27 injured passengers were initially admitted to Hospital Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. By Friday night, 21 had been discharged, three remained under observation, and three seriously injured individuals were transferred by helicopter to hospitals in Tenerife for specialised treatment. The Foreign Office confirmed they are providing support to the family of the deceased British man.
Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper expressed her condolences, stating that her thoughts are with those affected and that the UK authorities are in contact with local officials to offer support to British citizens and their families. The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, also extended his support to the victims.
