Cambridge University Must Initiate Independent Inquiry into Jason Arday Professorship
A coalition of academics is calling for an independent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Professor Jason Arday's appointment as a sociology professor at Cambridge University. This demand follows questions raised regarding the verification of Professor Arday's academic background and the process by which he secured the prestigious position.
Professor Priyamvada Gopal, a Cambridge academic and a prominent voice among those advocating for the inquiry, stated that the university's internal review processes are insufficient. “Cambridge should not be marking its own homework,” Professor Gopal asserted, emphasising the need for external scrutiny to ensure transparency and accountability.
The controversy centres on the verification procedures undertaken by Cambridge during Professor Arday's hiring.
