Cardiff Mechanic Confronted by Family After Woman Lay Dead for Days in Crashed Car
A mechanic in Cardiff, Neil Lewis, was confronted by the family of Darcy Ross, a young woman whose body was found days after a car crash on the A48(M) in December 2023. Police were called to diffuse a heated exchange between Lewis and Ross's relatives following accusations that he had falsified an MOT certificate for the vehicle.
Ms Ross, 21, was discovered in the wreckage of a Škoda Fabia, which had left the carriageway near the St Mellons area of Cardiff. The vehicle was reportedly purchased just days prior to the incident, and an MOT certificate, allegedly issued by Lewis, declared the car roadworthy.
The family maintains that Lewis, operating from an unauthorised garage, issued the fraudulent certificate despite the vehicle reportedly having multiple defects. South Wales Police have confirmed their investigation into Ms Ross's death is ongoing. Additionally, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is conducting its own inquiry into the alleged MOT fraud.
Lewis declined to comment on the accusations, stating the matter was 'in the hands of the police'. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about oversight within the used car market and the potential for grave consequences arising from fraudulent vehicle certifications.
