Ceuta: Migrants Throw Stones at Military Vehicle, Camps Incinerated by Locals
A recent incident in Ceuta saw a military vehicle come under a barrage of stones from a group of migrants. This act of aggression reportedly occurred when soldiers were distributing food, prompting a strong condemnation from the Spanish Ministry of Defence, which vowed to pursue charges against those responsible.
Separately, local residents took matters into their own hands, targeting migrant camps established on the beaches. These makeshift shelters were deliberately set alight, forcing those living there to flee. Authorities have stated they are investigating these arson attacks, but no arrests have been publicly announced.
This unrest reflects the persistent tensions in Ceuta, a strategically significant Spanish territory bordering Morocco. The enclave frequently serves as a transit point for individuals attempting to reach Europe, often leading to strained relations between the migrant population and local inhabitants, compounded by the presence of Spanish security forces.
