Chinese Nursery Owner Receives Life Sentence for Poisoning Hundreds of Children
A Chinese nursery owner has been condemned to life imprisonment after a court found her responsible for poisoning hundreds of children. The verdict, delivered by a court in Jiaozuo, Henan province, concluded that the woman, identified as Ms. Wang, intentionally added inedible industrial-grade paint to the children's food. This illicit practice was reportedly undertaken to make the meals appear more appetising.
The court's findings detailed that Ms. Wang, who owned the Jiaozuo Happy Kids Nursery, directed her staff to mix the paint into porridge and other dishes served to the children. The poisonous substances led to a range of severe health issues among the young victims, with medical reports confirming widespread contamination and subsequent illness.
Five other staff members implicated in the scheme also received significant prison sentences, reflecting the organised nature of the egregious act. The case has underscored the critical need for stringent oversight within childcare facilities, particularly regarding food preparation and ingredient sourcing, to prevent such deliberate endangerment of vulnerable populations.
