Deadly Bangkok Bar Fire Traps Patrons, Musician Describes Explosions During Escape
At least 13 individuals have died and 35 sustained injuries following a significant fire at the Mountain B nightclub in Sattahip, Chonburi province, located east of Bangkok. The incident occurred in the early hours, with victims reportedly trapped as the inferno consumed the building.
Eyewitness Accounts Detail Rapid Spread
One musician performing at the venue recounted crawling for an exit as the fire rapidly spread. He described being thrown from the building by what felt like an explosion, sustaining burns to his legs. Other witnesses reported the fire originating on the stage before quickly engulfing the ceiling.
Initial reports indicate that many patrons were unable to escape due to the speed of the blaze and potentially blocked exits. Emergency services arrived swiftly, but the intensity of the fire made rescue efforts challenging. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and the club's adherence to safety regulations, particularly concerning exit routes and fire suppression systems.
The provincial governor has visited the scene, and an official inquiry is underway to determine culpability for the tragic loss of life and injuries incurred.
