Denby Pottery Closes Derbyshire Production After 215 Years Due to Costs
The final ceramics have been fired at Denby Pottery’s Derbyshire kilns, marking the end of more than two centuries of production. The company, established in 1809, appointed administrators on 31 March, attributing its collapse to escalating energy and labour expenses, alongside diminished demand.
Production concluded on Thursday, with Denby issuing a statement expressing gratitude to customers and former employees for their support. The company acknowledged that while manufacturing ceases, the “love and soul poured into each piece will live on.” It further thanked “generations of dedicated, skilled people” for their contributions to its history.
Despite a “#SaveDenby” public campaign encouraging purchases, administrators confirmed their inability to secure a buyer, leading directly to the cessation of operations. Denby’s international subsidiaries, based in Korea, the US, and China, remain operational and unaffected by the UK administration proceedings.
