Disney and ABC Sue Trump-Appointed FCC Official Over Licence Renewal Blocking
Disney and ABC have filed a lawsuit against Nathan Simington, a Trump appointee to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), claiming he has deliberately obstructed the early renewal of an ABC television station licence in New York. The media conglomerate asserts that Simington's actions constitute retaliation against ABC for broadcasting content that the previous administration found unfavourable.
The legal challenge, submitted to the US Court of Appeals, accuses Simington of withholding his vote on the licence renewal, thereby preventing its approval. Typically, such renewals are routine administrative matters, particularly when no challenges are presented. ABC had applied for an early renewal for WABC-TV, its New York station, a standard procedure that usually progresses without incident.
