Ethan Loveridge Jailed for Head-on Crash Causing Life-Changing Injuries to Martin Howells

Ethan Loveridge, 20, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after a head-on collision that caused significant injuries to Martin Howells. The crash, which occurred on the A487 near Cardigan, Ceredigion, resulted in Mr Howells suffering a broken foot, a dislocated toe, a deep cut to his knee, and a fractured finger. He was unable to work for 10 months and has subsequently been diagnosed with PTSD, severely impacting his ability to drive.

Court Proceedings and Evidence

Loveridge, from Aberystwyth, was driving a Ford Fiesta when he veered onto the wrong side of the road, colliding with Mr Howells' Ford Transit Custom. Judge Huw Rees at Swansea Crown Court referenced dashcam footage from Mr Howells' van, describing the incident as 'horrific'. The court heard that Loveridge had received a warning for his driving just one week prior to the crash.

Loveridge pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. In addition to his custodial sentence, he has been disqualified from driving for three years and nine months, and will be required to take an extended re-test upon its conclusion.
