Families Displaced After Storm Dave Topples Tree onto Staffordshire Homes
A severe weather incident in Kniver, Staffordshire, on Saturday evening saw a substantial tree fall onto two residential properties, rendering both families homeless. The incident occurred on Windsor Crescent at approximately 22:00 BST, following strong winds brought by Storm Dave across the region.
Devastating Impact on Homes
Emergency services, including Staffordshire Fire and Rescue, attended the scene where the colossal tree had caused extensive damage. Images from the site reveal a considerable breach in the roofs of the two semi-detached houses, alongside several vehicles that were completely crushed beneath the fallen timber.
Despite the destructive force, Staffordshire Fire and Rescue confirmed that there were no reported casualties, and their crews concluded operations around midnight. Ryan Bridgewood, a resident of one of the affected homes, recounted the terrifying experience, stating, "We just heard an almighty crash, it was like an earthquake had hit the house." He expressed immediate concern for the safety of his two children.
Storm Dave's Wider Impact
The Met Office had previously issued amber and yellow national severe weather warnings, cautioning of potent winds and intermittent heavy rainfall for parts of northern England, North Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland during Saturday evening. Storm Dave's impact was felt across these areas, with this incident in Staffordshire being a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed by severe weather.
