
Fatal Incident in Melbourne as Car Strikes Pedestrians
A grey Toyota struck two pedestrians on Langs Road in the Ascot Vale suburb of Melbourne shortly before 17:00 local time on Saturday. One individual was pronounced dead at the scene, whilst a second victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Victoria Police confirmed the arrest of a man, who is expected to be interviewed regarding the circumstances of the collision. The precise nature of the incident, including whether it was an intentional act or involved illicit substances, remains under investigation.
The incident occurred in the vicinity of the Melbourne Showgrounds, which was hosting the Supanova Comic Con & Gaming event, attracting thousands of attendees. Eyewitness accounts suggest the vehicle mounted the kerb at speed, striking individuals before stalling. An off-duty officer, assisted by members of the public, apprehended the driver.
