Father Fined for Negligence After Son, 2, Dies in Cyprus Hotel Fall
A Cypriot court has imposed a €3000 fine on Gareth Foster after finding him negligent in the death of his two-year-old son, Joshua. The tragic incident occurred in September 2021 when Joshua fell from a third-floor window at the Atlantica Oasis Hotel in Paphos.
During the court proceedings, it emerged that Mr Foster had been holding Joshua to show him the water park view from their hotel room window. He reportedly "lost control" of the child, who then fell to his death. The family, from the UK, had been on holiday at the time.
Mr Foster pleaded guilty to the charge of causing death by negligence. The court's ruling underscores the responsibilities of parents and guardians in ensuring child safety, particularly in unfamiliar environments such as holiday accommodations. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of momentary lapses in attention.
