Father States Online Radicalisation Led to Son's School Stabbing Conviction
The father of a teenager convicted of attempting to murder a schoolgirl has attributed his son's actions to online radicalisation. The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, stabbed the 15-year-old victim multiple times in the neck, chest, and back at a school in Southgate, North London.
During a hearing at Willesden Youth Court, the court heard that the boy held extremist views. His father asserts that his son was exposed to and influenced by a significant volume of extreme material found on the internet. He has urged for more robust controls on online content to protect other young people from such exposure.
The victim survived the attack, although her injuries were severe. The perpetrator was sentenced to a two-year detention and training order after pleading guilty to attempted murder. The case highlights persistent concerns regarding the proliferation of extremist narratives online and their potential impact on vulnerable individuals, a challenge often cited in broader discussions about internet governance and societal safety.
