Arrest Warrant Issued for Gye Worthy After Funeral Assault on Celebrant
An arrest warrant has been issued for Gye Worthy after he failed to attend Teesside Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. Mr Worthy, 44, was due to face charges of assaulting a funeral celebrant during the service for his son, Taylor Worthy.
Taylor Worthy, 16, tragically died in a collision on the A66 near Darlington in March. The court heard that during Taylor's funeral at Darlington Crematorium on 26th April, his father, Gye Worthy, assaulted the celebrant, causing injuries including a cut to the lip and a broken tooth. Mr Worthy, of Lingfield Green, Darlington, is also accused of using threatening behaviour towards police officers and being found in possession of cannabis on the same day.
The court proceeded to hear the case in Mr Worthy's absence, and the warrant for his arrest was subsequently granted.
