Fifty Arrests Across Cumbria and North East in Organised Crime Operation
Fifty individuals have been arrested across Cumbria and the North East as part of an extensive investigation targeting organised crime. The operation follows a fatal road traffic collision on the A66 near Bowes, County Durham, which claimed the lives of a 28-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man in May.
While initial arrests immediately after the crash were for traffic offences, the subsequent, broader probe has led to apprehensions for suspected involvement in drug supply, money laundering, and firearms offences. Police executed numerous warrants, seizing controlled substances, cash, and weapons across multiple locations.
Law enforcement officials stated the operation underscores their commitment to dismantling criminal networks. The connection between the A66 fatalities and the wider organised crime investigation remains a central element of the ongoing inquiry.
