Police Name Crew Members After Lewis Fishing Vessel Disappears Off Western Isles
Police Scotland have named the three crew members of a fishing boat that vanished off the Western Isles. Paul Alliston, 47, from Stornoway; Martin Johnstone, 29, from Caithness; and Daniel Macphail, 49, from Stornoway, were on board the Louisa, which failed to return to port in Lewis.
The alarm was raised after the 16-metre vessel did not arrive as planned on Tuesday, triggering a comprehensive search involving multiple agencies. Lifeboats from Stornoway, Leverburgh, and Lochinver, along with a Royal Navy destroyer and a coastguard helicopter, participated in the efforts.
Debris confirmed to be from the Louisa was subsequently located near the waters of Mingulay, an uninhabited island in the Outer Hebrides. The search operation has since been scaled down following the recovery of some items. Authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances of the vessel's disappearance.
