Five Individuals Imprisoned for Kidnapping and Assault After Victim Escapes from Window
Five individuals have been imprisoned for their involvement in the kidnapping and severe assault of a man in Stoke-on-Trent. The victim endured repeated attacks over several hours, with his captors reportedly filming the abuse, before he managed to escape by leaping from a window.
Court Proceedings and Sentences
The Sentences, delivered at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, saw the defendants receive substantial terms. David Simcock, 40, was sentenced to six years and nine months after pleading guilty to kidnap and causing grievous bodily harm. Christopher Booth, 31, received a six-year prison term for kidnap and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Ryan Simcock, 37, was jailed for four years and 10 months for kidnap.
Additionally, Leah Parkes, 27, was handed a three-year and four-month sentence for kidnap, and Louise Riley, 42, received a two-year and six-month sentence, also for kidnap. A sixth defendant, Jason Birks, 43, who pleaded guilty to assisting an offender, will be sentenced at a later date.
The Abduction and Escape
The court heard that the incident began on the evening of 21 January 2023, when the victim was taken from a property on Dividy Road in Bentilee. He was then transported to a different address on Longton Hall Road, Longton, where the assaults occurred. Detectives described the attacks as brutal and sustained.
The victim's escape, by jumping from a window, led to his discovery by a member of the public who promptly contacted emergency services. Staffordshire Police launched an immediate investigation, which culminated in the arrests and subsequent convictions of the group.
