Former DUP Leader Jeffrey Donaldson Investigated for Alleged Rape within Parliament
Jeffrey Donaldson, formerly a prominent figure and leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), is reportedly the subject of a Metropolitan Police investigation concerning an alleged rape within the confines of the Houses of Parliament. Although authorities have refrained from publicly identifying Donaldson, their official statement detailed an ongoing inquiry involving a 63-year-old male, matching his age.
Details of the Allegation
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that a complaint of rape was made on 10 April 2024, alleging an incident took place within the parliamentary estate between 2002 and 2007. The individual under investigation, described only as a 63-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of rape and subsequently released on bail. Police have indicated that inquiries are continuing into the matter.
Donaldson, a long-serving Member of Parliament, saw his career conclude abruptly following these allegations. He resigned from his leadership of the DUP and was suspended from the party in March of this year after being charged with historical sexual offences. This separate investigation by the Metropolitan Police introduces further serious scrutiny of the former political leader.
