Former Metropolitan Detective Pete Newman Confirmed Reform UK Candidate for Holborn and St Pancras By-election

Pete Newman, formerly a detective with the Metropolitan Police, has been selected to contest the Holborn and St Pancras by-election for Reform UK. The election is scheduled for 8 October, precipitated by the departure of Keir Starmer, the former Labour leader, to the House of Lords.

Newman's policing career, which spanned over three decades, saw him working in various capacities, including the fraud squad and CID. He has been vocal in his criticism of current policing standards, particularly regarding drug policy and public order enforcement. Newman asserts a need for a more robust approach to law and order, a position that aligns with Reform UK's broader platform.

This by-election is expected to draw considerable attention, not least due to the historical dominance of the Labour Party in the constituency. However, Reform UK, under its renewed leadership, aims to challenge established political alignments by offering a distinct, right-leaning alternative, emphasising themes of national sovereignty and reduced state intervention.
