Former Metropolitan Police Officer Jailed Four Years for Demanding Suspect's Sex Video

A former Metropolitan Police officer has been sentenced to four years in prison for misconduct in a public office. The officer, identified as Stephen Sayer, demanded a sex video from a male suspect, stating his intention to show it to 'the lads from footy'. This action occurred while Sayer was investigating allegations of sexual assault against the suspect.

Judge Michael Slater, presiding over the case, characterised Sayer's conduct as part of a 'toxic' WhatsApp culture. The court heard that Sayer had messaged the suspect, requesting 'anything you have on video'. This exchange was discovered when the suspect later reported Sayer's inappropriate behaviour.

Sayer was dismissed from the Metropolitan Police prior to his conviction. This incident is the latest in a series of cases that have drawn scrutiny to the conduct of officers within the force, raising significant concerns about professional standards and accountability.
