Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani Hospitalised in Stable But Critical Condition
Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City Mayor, has been admitted to hospital and is currently in a "stable but critical condition", according to his spokesman, Ted Goodman. Goodman's social media statement offered no further details regarding the illness but emphasised Giuliani's "unwavering strength" in facing challenges.
Donald Trump, former US President, quickly responded on Truth Social, labelling Giuliani "the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR" and repeating unsubstantiated claims regarding the 2020 election results, which Giuliani had also falsely contested.
Giuliani, aged 81, was previously involved in a motor vehicle collision last September in New Hampshire, sustaining a fractured thoracic vertebra, alongside multiple lacerations and contusions. It is unclear if his current hospitalisation is directly related to those injuries.
Famously dubbed "America's Mayor" following his leadership after the 9/11 attacks, Giuliani received an honorary knighthood (KBE) from Queen Elizabeth II in 2002. After leaving office, he became a central figure in Trump's political campaigns, eventually serving as his personal lawyer. Post-2020 election, Giuliani disseminated false claims of electoral fraud, leading to a USD#148 million defamation judgement against him for slandering two election workers.
