Former SNP Chief Executive Peter Murrell Accused of Embezzling £459,000 from Party
Peter Murrell, the former chief executive of the Scottish National Party (SNP), appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh for a preliminary hearing this Monday morning. He stands accused of embezzling £459,000 from the party over more than a decade.
Murrell, who is the estranged husband of former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, faces allegations that he illicitly obtained funds between August 2010 and January 2023. The indictment details purported purchases including luxury goods, jewellery, cosmetics, two cars, and a motorhome.
The specific charges against Murrell became public in February, following initial reports from the Scottish media regarding the indictment's contents. Murrell served as the SNP's chief executive for 22 years prior to these accusations.
