Former SpaceX Engineer Andre Lavoie Sells Shares in Company
Andre Lavoie, who commenced his tenure at SpaceX in 2009 as an early engineer, has confirmed his intention to sell portions of his shares in the company. Mr Lavoie stated, "Every chance I get, I'll sell a little more," indicating a calculated approach to his investment.
His decision follows a trajectory common among employees of highly valued private technology firms. Having accrued a significant number of shares over his 15 years with SpaceX, Mr Lavoie is now strategically offloading his equity through secondary market transactions. These opportunities allow staff to realise gains from their holdings without requiring the company to undertake an initial public offering (IPO).
SpaceX, currently valued at approximately $180 billion, has provided these liquidity events periodically, enabling employees to convert their long-term investments into liquid assets. Such divestments highlight the material benefit for early employees who have seen their stakes appreciate considerably, underscoring the financial incentives inherent in working for successful private enterprises before public market access.
