Four Teenagers Arrested Following Fatal Stabbing in Peterborough
Investigation Underway After Tragic Incident
Four teenagers are currently in police custody following the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy in Peterborough. Cambridgeshire Police were alerted just before 19:00 BST on Sunday to reports of an attack in Riseholme, close to the Ortongate Shopping Centre. The victim later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Detectives investigating the incident have indicated that they do not believe it was a random act. Two individuals, a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, both from Peterborough, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. Additionally, two girls, aged 16 and 17, have been apprehended on suspicion of assisting an offender. The 16-year-old girl, from March, faces a further charge of possession of a bladed article. All remain in police custody as enquiries continue.
Community Impact and Police Presence
The tragedy has had a notable impact on the local community, with St John's Church School in Peterborough deciding to close due to a "serious incident" and police activity in close proximity. A significant police cordon remains in place around the Ortongate Shopping Centre, alongside an increased police presence, which is expected to continue for several days. Floral tributes have been left near the cordon.
Detective Chief Inspector Richard Stott, from the Beds, Cambs & Herts Major Crime Unit, stated, "This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a young man, and we are in contact with his family and keeping them updated." He reassured the public that while concerning, the attack was not believed to be random. Authorities are urging anyone with information or home CCTV footage to contact the police to assist with their investigation.
