George Cottrell: Convicted Fraudster and Crypto Entrepreneur Linked to Nigel Farage
George Cottrell, known in certain circles as 'Posh George', is a 32-year-old aristocrat who has emerged as a significant figure in the financial backing of Nigel Farage. Cottrell, whose family lineage includes a baronetcy, was convicted of fraud in the United States in 2016 for his role in a drug money laundering scheme. He served eight months of a 21-month sentence.
Following his release, Cottrell has reportedly repositioned himself as a cryptocurrency entrepreneur. His association with Farage dates back several years, with Cottrell having worked for him at different junctures, including during the Brexit Party's European election campaign in 2019.
Questions regarding the funding of Farage's political activities have frequently arisen. The public disclosure of Cottrell's past and current financial ties to Farage provides a clearer, if concerning, picture of the sources underwriting such operations. The opaque nature of political financing, particularly when individuals with documented criminal histories are involved, consistently raises valid public interest concerns.
