Sulemana Abdul Samed, measuring 9ft 6in (2.89m), died in his family home in Gambaga, Northern Ghana. Diagnosed with gigantism several years prior, Mr Samed had been dealing with significant health issues, including chronic leg ulcers, which necessitated regular hospital visits. A recent visit to a local clinic confirmed his unusually high stature, a measurement that initially baffled local healthcare workers lacking appropriate equipment.
Mr Samed had become a prominent figure in his community. His physical size, attributed to gigantism, had been a constant challenge, yet he maintained a positive outlook. Locals described him as a 'generous and popular giant', reflecting the affection and respect he commanded. His funeral took place on Saturday, adhering to Islamic traditions.
His condition also brought financial hardship. Mr Samed had previously appealed for public assistance to fund a proposed brain surgery, which medical professionals hoped could halt his growth. Despite these appeals, he continued to face health deterioration. His death marks the loss of a distinctive figure in Ghana.
