Grenfell Tower Fire: Police Pursue Charges Against 20 Companies, 54 Individuals
The Metropolitan Police has formally referred 20 companies and 54 individuals to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for potential charges relating to the Grenfell Tower disaster. The devastating fire in June 2017 claimed the lives of 72 residents in West London.
Police have indicated that the recommended charges include corporate manslaughter, gross negligence manslaughter, and various health and safety offences. This development follows a protracted investigation into the circumstances that led to the rapid spread of the fire, primarily attributed to the building's exterior cladding system.
The CPS will now undertake a detailed review of the evidence compiled by the police, a process that could take several months.
