Irish Government Commits £197 Million to Cross-Border Rail Infrastructure

The Irish government has announced a £197 million contribution to significant cross-border rail initiatives. This funding, drawn from the final allocation of the Shared Island Fund, is earmarked for several projects designed to improve connectivity between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Key among the funded proposals is the development of the Ulster Canal Greenway, a multi-modal transport route planned to link towns across the border. Additionally, a new hourly rail service between Belfast and Dublin is slated for implementation, aiming to significantly increase the frequency and capacity of cross-border travel.
