Isle of Man TT Crash: Two Spectators Flown to UK for Specialist Medical Care
Two spectators injured when a competitor crashed into the crowd during the opening day of the Isle of Man TT festival have been transferred to the UK for specialist medical care. Event organisers confirmed that six other spectators and the motorbike racer involved have since been discharged from hospital.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, approximately 13:50 BST, at the exit of Parliament Square in Ramsey during the TT's first practice session. The session was immediately red-flagged, leading to the cancellation of the remainder of the day's schedule on the 37.7-mile (60km) Mountain Course.
Viewing Area Restricted
Following an initial assessment by race, safety, and operational personnel, TT organisers announced a ban on fans from the Parliament Square viewing area for the duration of the 2026 event. This measure was implemented as a precaution, citing the "unusual nature of the incident" and reflecting a commitment to reviewing safety protocols after any incident.
Manx Care CEO Teresa Cope extended well-wishes to those affected and highlighted the coordinated response from medical professionals, including the island’s ambulance service, the Great North Air Ambulance Service, and Manx Roadracing Medical Services. Cope praised the "exceptional job" in preparing Noble's Hospital teams to provide care and stated that immediate debriefs would take place to identify any learning for future planning. Qualifying for the event is scheduled to resume, with the festival continuing until 6 June.
