Isle of Wight Woodland Fire: Firefighting Helicopter Deployed to 25-Hectare Blaze
A firefighting helicopter has been deployed to the Isle of Wight to assist in tackling a substantial woodland fire that has consumed 25 hectares near Alverstone. The aircraft is drawing water from the River Yar, which runs through the affected area, to douse the flames.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that approximately 60 firefighters are actively engaged in operations to contain the blaze. The initial emergency call was received yesterday afternoon, prompting a rapid response to the developing situation.
Local residents have been advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the pervasive smoke. Emergency services have also urged the public to avoid the area to allow crews unimpedied access and ensure public safety during ongoing efforts to bring the extensive fire under control.
