John Eryl Parry Completes 460-Mile Charity Walk Despite Cancer Diagnosis

John Eryl Parry, a 76-year-old great-grandfather from Prestatyn, has successfully concluded a 460-mile walking endeavour across Wales. His efforts have generated in excess of £15,000 for blood cancer charities, despite receiving his own diagnosis of myeloma during the undertaking.

Mr Parry began his charity walk in February, initially to support the Clwyd-Conwy Mind mental health charity. However, a fall from a ladder in March led to hospital treatment where doctors identified myeloma, a form of blood cancer. Upon this diagnosis, he decided to redirect his fundraising to Myeloma UK and Haematology and Oncology Research and Treatment (HORT).

Despite the personal health challenge, Mr Parry continued his walking, covering 460 miles – the equivalent distance of walking from Prestatyn to Tenby and back. He completed the challenge at the end of May, reflecting on the support received from family and friends throughout his journey. The funds raised will now contribute to research and patient support for blood cancer conditions.
