Keir Starmer's Incoming Government Considered Relocation from 10 Downing Street
A potential relocation of the Prime Minister's official residence and office from 10 Downing Street was deliberated by Keir Starmer's incoming government, according to recently surfaced documents. The discussions occurred during the transition period following the most recent general election.
Internal assessments reportedly characterised the iconic building as a "gloomy, mice-infested, bomb-curtained rabbit warren," underscoring concerns about its suitability for modern governmental operations and its general state of disrepair. This assessment informed proposals to explore alternative locations for the Prime Minister.
Despite the detailed discussions and the critical appraisal of the current premises, the plans for a relocation were ultimately shelved. 10 Downing Street will therefore continue to serve as the long-established seat of the British government, maintaining its historical, if somewhat dilapidated, status.
