Kettering MP Rosie Wrighting Resigns Health Post After Wes Streeting Quits
Rosie Wrighting, the Labour Member of Parliament for Kettering, has announced her resignation as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) in the Department of Health. This move follows the earlier departure of Wes Streeting, who stepped down as Health Secretary on Thursday, citing a loss of confidence in Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's leadership.
Wrighting stated it had been a "pleasure" to work with Streeting, commending him for never shying away from "the right principled decision, even in difficult times." She further remarked, "We must show that we can be better than this, that politics can change things for the good and offer people hope."
In a public statement, Wrighting lauded Streeting as a "generational talent" whose leadership had placed the NHS "on the road to recovery." She called for "a vision, an open debate of ideas about how we move forward from this moment, with the best field of candidates that our movement has."
Her resignation marks a swift exit from a role she expressed delight in securing on 11 September. Last year, she had noted her pleasure "to be able to play a role in supporting the fantastic ministerial team," asserting that Labour was making progress on "getting the NHS back on its feet, delivering more appointments and cutting waiting lists."
