Kherson Region Ceasefire Extended by Ukraine and Russia for Civilian Evacuation
A temporary ceasefire in Ukraine's Kherson region, established to evacuate civilians from areas inundated by recent flooding, has been extended. Both Ukrainian and Russian authorities have confirmed the prolongation of the truce, which was originally set for the town of Oleshky.
Reports from both sides indicate that no breaches of the agreement have occurred since its inception. This adherence has allowed for the continued safe passage of residents from communities significantly impacted by the extensive flooding.
The agreement underscores a rare instance of direct, albeit localised, cooperation between Kyiv and Moscow, primarily driven by the immediate humanitarian exigency in the southern Ukrainian territory.
