Kidwelly Bus Crash: Rescuers Use Van Tools to Free Trapped Passengers
Two individuals, Martyn Pope and Dean Hollands, were among the first on the scene following a bus collision with a wall in Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, on Tuesday. The pair swiftly deployed tools from their van, including an angle grinder and a crowbar, to free passengers trapped within the wreckage.
Mr. Pope recounted how the bus had crashed into a wall on the main road through the town. He described the scene as chaotic, with some passengers already attempting to escape through emergency exits. He and Mr. Hollands immediately began working to cut away damaged sections of the bus to create larger exit points for those still inside.
The responders focused their efforts on areas where passengers were visibly trapped, including a woman whose legs were pinned. Their intervention allowed several individuals to be safely extricated before the arrival of emergency services. Both men emphasised that their actions were driven by immediate necessity, stating that "adrenaline kicked in" as they responded to the unfolding emergency.
