King Charles III Receives Blue Peter Green Badge for Environmental Advocacy at Dumfries House
King Charles III was presented with a Blue Peter Green badge in recognition of his sustained efforts in advocating for environmental causes and sustainability. The ceremony occurred at Dumfries House, East Ayrshire.
The monarch received the badge from presenter Joel Mawhinney and Liza Kengran, the sustainable food systems curriculum manager for The King's Foundation. Following the presentation, another Blue Peter badge was placed into the foundation's time capsule, intended to remain buried for a century, marking its 35th anniversary.
During his visit, the King engaged with primary school pupils participating in the Growing Together, Cooking Together programme, alongside secondary school students from Auchenharvie Academy recognised for their sustainability initiatives. Charles has been a vocal proponent of reducing food waste, notably through the 2023 Coronation Food Project, which redirects surplus food to communities in Merseyside, Birmingham, and London.
This is not the first Blue Peter recognition for the King; both he and the Queen received Gold Blue Peter badges in Liverpool in 2023. Charles was previously honoured for his environmental contributions and support for young people via The King's Trust, while the Queen was acknowledged for her work promoting literacy.
Later, the King is scheduled to meet with firefighters who battled the extensive blaze at a B-listed Victorian building in Glasgow city centre in March, an incident which involved 250 personnel.
