
Laptop Catches Fire on American Airlines Flight 2398; Passenger Treated in Chicago
A laptop computer caught fire on American Airlines Flight 2398 en route from Dallas-Fort Worth to Chicago O'Hare International Airport on Friday, necessitating an emergency response upon landing.
Incident Details
The pilot reported a "cabin fire in the back" of the aircraft as it approached Chicago. Emergency services were mobilised, and the flight, carrying 137 passengers and six crew members, landed safely at approximately 22:45 local time.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze using a water extinguisher. One passenger was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene but declined hospital transport. The Chicago Fire Department confirmed the incident involved a laptop computer overheating and catching fire.
Passengers were subsequently deplaned and transferred to a different aircraft to continue their journey.
