Last Remaining House in Welsh Mining Village Troedrhiwfuwch Goes to Auction
Number 2 Lawrence Terrace represents the last residential property in Troedrhiwfuwch, Caerphilly County, a village where over 600 inhabitants relocated nearly five decades ago due to geological instability in the Rhymney Valley.
Village Evacuation and Demolition
Local council concerns regarding mountain movement ultimately led to the mass evacuation and subsequent demolition of most of the village's 94 houses and various community buildings, including a chapel, church, shop, pub, school, library, and post office. The specific reasons for this single property's survival remain unclear, according to auctioneers.
Sean Roper of Paul Fosh Auctions described the sale as a "truly unique" opportunity to acquire a property with a direct connection to a vanished community.
