Leon Black Exits Epstein Hearing, House Panel Issues Subpoena for Testimony
Financier Leon Black departed a congressional hearing in Washington investigating his financial relationships with deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Black, who co-founded the private equity giant Apollo Global Management, reportedly left the House Ways and Means Committee hearing after less than an hour.
Following his abrupt exit, the House panel issued subpoenas demanding Black provide sworn, on-camera testimony. This action reflects the committee's determination to obtain a full account of his dealings with Epstein, particularly concerning payments reportedly totalling $158 million for financial advice.
Black has previously stated that the payments were for legitimate tax and estate planning services. However, the committee's ongoing scrutiny underscores persistent questions regarding the nature of their relationship and the extent of Epstein's alleged influence within elite financial circles. The subpoena mandates Black's appearance for a deposition, signalling an intensification of the congressional inquiry into the broader network that facilitated Epstein's activities.
