Marston's Brewery in Burton-upon-Trent Faces Closure, 66 Jobs at Risk
Marston's has announced plans to close its brewery in Burton-upon-Trent by the end of 2024, a move that would see the production of its famous ales, including Marston's Pedigree, shifted to other sites. The proposed closure places 66 jobs at immediate risk within the historic brewing town.
The company stated that a consultation period with affected staff has commenced. This strategic decision aims to optimise the company's brewing capacity, consolidating operations into fewer, more efficient facilities. The Burton site, central to the town's centuries-old brewing heritage, has been a cornerstone of Marston's production.
Burton-upon-Trent has a deep-rooted association with brewing, with its distinctive water quality long celebrated for producing exceptional beer. The potential closure signifies a substantial shift for both the company and the local industrial landscape, disconnecting a prominent brand from its traditional home.
