Maryam Moshiri Diagnosed with Polycythaemia Vera, Continues Work

Journalist Maryam Moshiri has revealed a diagnosis of polycythaemia vera (PV), a chronic form of blood cancer. The condition, which causes the overproduction of red blood cells, was identified after her general practitioner observed irregularities during standard blood tests in November 2024.

Moshiri stated her commitment to continue her professional work, despite the diagnosis of the incurable illness. PV can lead to serious complications, including blood clots, strokes, and heart attacks, if left untreated. Management typically involves regular venesection and medication to control blood cell production.

Her public statement highlighted the importance of routine medical checks in detecting such conditions, even when symptoms may not be immediately apparent.
