Metropolitan Police Charge Two Individuals Over 180kg Cocaine Seizure
A man and a woman have been formally charged with drug trafficking offences by the Metropolitan Police. This action follows the seizure of more than 180 kilogrammes of cocaine, discovered concealed within a consignment of food items at an east London freight forwarding company.
The arrests were made after officers from the Met's Specialist Crime Command executed warrants in east London. Kelvin Awuah, 41, and Hannah Walfall, 37, were subsequently charged with conspiracy to import Class A drugs. Both appeared at Barkingside Magistrates' Court.
The operation represents a joint effort, with intelligence from the National Crime Agency and close cooperation with Nigerian authorities, underscoring the international dimension of such illicit trade. The seized cocaine has an estimated street value in the tens of millions of pounds, highlighting the substantial financial interests driving these networks. This interdiction disrupts a significant supply chain, often linked to wider organised criminal activities that contribute to social harm across the UK.
