Wakefield Man Jailed for Manslaughter After Fatal One-Punch Pub Altercation

Harry Mannion, aged 28, has been sentenced to three years and nine months imprisonment for the manslaughter of Tony Powles, 62, at The Magnet pub in Wakefield.

Mr Powles sustained fatal injuries after being struck by Mannion during an altercation that followed a verbal dispute between the two men. Emergency services were called to the establishment on Sunday, 12 March 2023, where Mr Powles was found unconscious.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

Paramedics transported Mr Powles to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a week later. West Yorkshire Police subsequently launched an investigation, leading to Mannion's arrest.

During court proceedings, Mannion pleaded guilty to manslaughter. The prosecution detailed that the confrontation escalated rapidly from a verbal disagreement to physical violence, resulting in Mr Powles' death. The sentencing reflects the grave consequences of the incident, with the court emphasising the tragic loss of life stemming from a single act of violence.
