Metropolitan Police Release Interview Footage After Russell Brand Conviction for Rape, Sexual Assaults
The Metropolitan Police has published extracts from their interview with Russell Brand, conducted after the comedian and actor was found guilty at Southwark Crown Court. A jury convicted Brand of one count of rape and three sexual assaults.
During the police interrogation, Brand maintained his innocence, asserting that all his sexual encounters were consensual. He stated, "I've been quite explicit about the promiscuity that I've engaged in, but I've always, always, always been conditional on consent." This claim was challenged by prosecutors who presented evidence detailing a pattern of coercive behaviour.
The convictions follow a detailed investigation by specialist officers, which included gathering testimony from multiple complainants. The case has highlighted ongoing scrutiny of accountability for public figures implicated in sexual misconduct within the entertainment industry.
