Morrisons to Axe 200 Head Office Roles in Restructuring Drive
Morrisons, one of the UK's largest supermarket chains, has confirmed that around 200 positions are at risk at its Hilmore House head office in Bradford. This decision is integral to a strategic overhaul of its central business operations, which commenced last year, and aims to enhance efficiency through technological advancements.
Focus on AI and Automation
A key component of the restructuring involves the increased utilisation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the automation of various manual tasks. A company spokesperson stated, "As we evolve and adapt, we are proposing to make some changes to a number of areas within our central structure." This will inevitably lead to what they described as "tough but necessary decisions" impacting head office colleagues.
The supermarket, which employs approximately 96,000 people across the UK, has initiated a formal consultation process with affected staff. Morrisons has committed to providing comprehensive support to those impacted, including assistance in securing alternative roles within the business where feasible. The announcement follows recent reports of sustained sales growth for the retailer, which has pledged continued investment in pricing to aid customers during challenging economic times.
